The library of Southern Medical University, founded in 1951, covers an area of 5400 square meters, with a collection of 500,000 volumes and 20 librarians serving there.
　　 The services it provides include borrowing and renewing, reading room, photocopies, discs document retrieval, medical information retrieval training, e-mails receiving and sending, consultation of up-date science and technology retrieval. The library network is linked to the campus network, where an access to Internet is available.

　　 The library mainly collects medical books and periodicals. It possesses a collection of more than 500,000 volumes including 275,500 volumes in Chinese and 75,200 in foreign languages, 111,000 bound volumes of the periodicals, 34,800 volumes of information materials, 3,500 pieces of electronic and audio-video materials. It has 1391 sorts of periodicals in Chinese or foreign language.
　　 The library, holding the membership of Chinese Library Association for Higher Medical Colleges, has established connection to exchange books and periodicals with 170 libraries at home and 60 from 12 countries and regions.
